Cheesy Beef Mushroom Pita (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Filling

01 - Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
02 - 0.5 teaspoon ground cumin
03 - 1 teaspoon dried oregano
04 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
05 - 1 small onion, chopped
06 - 100 g mushrooms, finely chopped
07 - 15 ml olive oil
08 - 450 g ground beef

→ Assembly

09 - Chopped tomatoes, optional
10 - Chopped lettuce, optional
11 - 240 ml tzatziki sauce
12 - 4 pita breads, halved
13 - 100 g shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

# Instructions:

01 - Fill up each pita half with the beef and mushroom mix. Add that cool tzatziki sauce on top. Toss in lettuce and tomato if you want. Eat right away while it's warm.
02 - Soften pitas by warming them gently. After that, pop open the pockets.
03 - Throw the shredded cheese into the hot beef-mushroom mix. Give it a stir till it’s melty and everything’s blended together.
04 - Mix in mushrooms, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Let it all cook down until the mushrooms are soft and the pan isn’t watery anymore.
05 - Drop in the ground beef and smash it up with your spoon. Cook it until it’s totally browned and no pink is left.
06 - Pour oil into your big skillet and heat it on medium. Toss in garlic and onion, cooking a couple minutes till they’re nice and soft.

# Notes:

01 - Tzatziki is cool and tangy, and it evens out the deep flavors from the filling.
02 - Swap in lentils or plant-based ground for a veggie-friendly swap.
03 - You can make the filling ahead and just warm it up when you’re ready.
