German Comfort Cabbage & Dumplings (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Dumplings

01 - 1 cup all-purpose flour
02 - 1 teaspoon dried thyme or parsley
03 - 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
04 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
05 - 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (optional)
06 - 1/4 teaspoon baking soda (optional)
07 - 2 large eggs, room temperature
08 - 1-3 tablespoons milk, as needed

→ Cabbage

09 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
10 - 1 large onion, roughly chopped
11 - 1 medium cabbage, chopped
12 - 1/4 cup vegetable or chicken stock
13 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
14 - Kosher salt, to taste
15 - Black pepper, to taste
16 - 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

# Instructions:

01 - Combine flour, herbs, pepper, and salt in a bowl. Add baking powder and soda (optional). Stir in eggs, add milk if needed.
02 - Boil salted water. Drop dough by tablespoons, cook until they float. Remove with a slotted spoon.
03 - Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a pot. Add onion, salt, cook until golden (8-10 minutes).
04 - Add remaining butter, cabbage, stock, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer covered until cabbage is tender.
05 - Fold in dumplings. Toss to combine. Season, garnish with parsley, and serve.
