Start by mixing the flour with salt and turmeric in a bowl. Take the cold butter and shortening, and work them into the mix until it resembles crumbs. Slowly pour in ice-cold water, knead until smooth, then wrap it up and chill for 30 minutes.

On medium heat, cook the beef in a pan until browned. Toss in onion, garlic, and spices like thyme, allspice, cayenne, black pepper, and salt. Stir in soy sauce and curry powder, then add broth. Let it simmer for 10 minutes before adding breadcrumbs. Let the mixture thicken and cool.

Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll the chilled dough flat and cut into circles about 6 inches wide. Place 2 tablespoons of the beef filling on one half, fold over the other side, and crimp the edges with a fork. Brush with beaten egg.

Line a baking tray and place the patties on it. Pop them into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until you see a lovely golden-brown color.
